It is absolutely clear that South Devon needs more housing.
However, over the past four and a half years I have been very vocal about the need to ensure it's in the right style and the right place, and is affordable for local residents who work and live in South Devon.
As well as supporting the campaigns to stand up against irresponsible developers at Locks Hill in Kingsbridge and to oppose the Inglewood site in Paignton, I have also championed new affordable housing initiatives such as Kingsbridge Feoffees.
I believe we can provide the necessary housing with style, infrastructure and location all taken into account. However, it requires us all to use the new measures in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act and to push our local authorities to work with local communities. After all, local communities know what’s best for their areas.
